everyone's got "a friend that..."
a friend that fixes cars.
a friend that fixes cars.
a friend that can juggle 3 oranges and 2 spoons at the same time.
a friend that can make a 5 course meal without a cookbook and their momma.
but.
do you have a friend that makes danish kringles?but.
i do.
her name is jacqui. and i miss her. she lives in iowa, where i used to live. we had some great times, her and i--her adjusting to rural life (she's a cali girl), and me, a transplant to iowa, trying to find my way.
i met her when her and her dad walked into the newspaper there (my first job out of college) because they needed a logo and business cards for the business they were buying. lucky for me, the lady that would normally do this was swamped, so, they got me. and the rest, well, the rest showed up on our doorstep yesterday. this kringle...her families Christmas card. we've received one every year around christmas time. and i can't help but smile.
we had kringles for our wedding cake. they are so. good. i mean, mind blowing good. flakey layers and almond paste. dear Lord, we gave them slices of heaven that day.
-------
so Jacqui, thank you for the kringle. we've already cut into it, it's just so.so.good. i stood over the counter and kept slicing little slices and shoving them in my mouth. quite unlady like i know, but that's ok. and, if i never told you, thank you for the talks and laughs and cries at that back table in the bakery. and all the other tables too...be it at a bar or....well, i think most of the rest of them were in fact, at a bar...but that's ok, right? thanks for taking on shelby county with me.
